I invited a group of ten artists to respond to the idea of who an unsung hero might be and the work resulted in two exhibitions at The Courtyard in Hereford and the Malvern Hills Library gallery. Ideas ranged from: Val Mclean and Ken Cornwell asking us to consider sacrifices that animals have made for us, Graham Hartill celebrating The Memory in acknowledgement of those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Claire Billingsley painting martyrs (as saints), Philip Weaver portraits of ‘Girlfriends’, Cal Ingram altering books, Andrea McLean inspired by map makers, Nick Alexander celebrates those who ‘March’ for their rights, John Flynn portraits of Renaissance craftspeople and Steve Bulley photographs of people who help others to raise their aspirations. My own work was a series of paintings produced on ceramics, of humanitarian aid workers, carers and civil rights workers amongst others. www.valeriemclean.com www.andreamclean.org www.stevebulleyphotography.co.uk
